Update on Renaming: Going from 'hp_fanfiction' to 'hp_fanworks'

Hi Everyone,

We're still going ahead with the re-naming of the community.

It's not re-named yet because there's some kind of technical hiccup, and I need a response from Dreamwidth Support to diagnose the issue.*

Re-naming the community requires it to be without any members, so we're still removing all the members except for the admins. However, your posting access privileges remain intact, as does the list of subscribers to the community, so you can still post freely!

We'll let you know when the rename goes through!

*I'm trying to rename it from hp_fanfiction to hp_fanworks, both of which are accounts I admin/control, but DW's rename system is blocking the rename. I have no idea why. D:

It might be because the first is a community and the second is a person? That might confuse it, if in the rename it tries to remap the community to a person by accident.

It's a very weird process, but as best as I can determine:

Community Renaming FAQ

"communities can be renamed to...any username you control. Communities can't currently be renamed to a username that's in use by another community, even if you admin that community."

So, what I'm trying should be possible, I think. I just really, really need a response from Support at this point. =/

Oh dear, I actually just went and re-read the FAQ for renaming a personal account.

"* The name of a registered personal journal you control. (To verify you control the account, the confirmed email address on the accounts, and the accounts' passwords, both need to be the same.)"

I am getting a bad feeling that maybe the rename is trying to check if the passwords on hp_fanfiction and hp_fanworks are the same, but since communities don't have passwords, it's failing that check...

I think I need to submit an update to my ticket to Support. >_O

SO, it turns out that in the case of renaming a COMMUNITY to a username that you already control (but which is not the username you use to admin the community), the passwords of the username you control and the admin username MUST BE THE SAME.

SO THRILLED TO HAVE THIS WORK! :D :D :D

The rest of my super-long Support ticket update was basically a request to have them change the community rename FAQ to document this requirement, since it's currently not listed. Playing 'guess which unlisted requirement you need to meet' is not the most fun possible. XD
